Gators East Staff

Dwight Mullins is the world history and sociology teacher at East Columbus High School.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, he lives in Wilmington with his wife, Erica. They have two children.

Mullins attended Moeller High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education.

He has twelve years in education and previously taught in Cincinnati and at Topsail High School in Pender County.

“I became a teacher to impact kids’ lives,” Mullins said.

He came to East Columbus with Principal Jeremiah Johnson, replacing longtime ECHS teacher Crystal Frink upon her retirement last year.

Mullins said the best part about working at East Columbus High is the “small student body, because it allows for relationships.”

He hopes that each ECHS student will “reach his or her full potential.”

He has been awarded the MEC Coach of the Year for lacrosse.

Outside of work, Mullins likes to go boating, spend time with his family and attend church.  Football is his favorite sport and his favorite team is the San Francisco 49ers.

His favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption and favorite television show is The Office.  Country is his favorite genre of music.

Mullins’ favorite book is Dubliners and lasagna is his favorite food.
