Gator Media Staff Tours News Reporter

Clockwise, from top left: News Reporter publisher Les High and news editor Justin Smith field questions from Gator Media staff; News Reporter staffers run an automated insertion machine; a closeup of a 1939 News Reporter in the paper’s morgue; Gator Media staffers pose for a photo; Morgan Patrick, Makah Bonilla and Maliyah Russ look through old News Reporters as longtime News Reporter staffer Clara Cartrette looks on; Gator Media teacher Fuller Royal explains the printing process at The News Reporter, where he worked for 20 years; Matthew Watkins explains the plate-burning equipment at the paper.

After a lunch at Pizza Village, Gator Media staffers were treated to a two-hour tour and visit to The News Reporter newspaper offices in Whiteville. They saw firsthand how a twice-weekly newspaper is put together, watching the various steps of the operation and talking with reporters and staffers in the different departments at the 128-year-old institution. The News Reporter prints an issue of Gators East for the school once every six weeks.
